Diversity & Inclusion in our Chapter

At Georgetown SPS, we acknowledge the systemic racism that has historically plagued the field of physics and the wider STEM community. Further, we acknowledge the impact this racism has on individuals both in and outside our community. We recognize that racism is oftentimes unconscious and unintentional, but that it is nonetheless harmful and wrong. As stated by the board of the American Physical Society, “without sustained effective action, systemic racism in America will continue to impede full Black Participation in many walks of American life, including the field of physics.” We, the Society of Physics Students, resolve to explicitly state our position as an anti-racist organization, not only identifying and naming instances of racism and injustice within the Georgetown community, but also working to challenge and eliminate these injustices.
